ADORE JACKIE
Adore Jackie is the Jacqueline Quinn collection based on the iconic looks of First Lady/ 60s “It” girl, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. I began working in the media team for the Adore Jackie collection in June of 2019 in New York.
My role at Adore Jackie was as media coordinator and personal assistant.
Through my role at Adore Jackie, the biggest lesson I learned was the importance of putting the clients vision before your own and recognising you are there for one reason and one reason only: to bring to life the wishes of your employer, regardless of how your vision may clash with theirs. Although my title was “Media Coordinator”, the only media I managed was Instagram.
My role involved:
Creating content post schedules for Instagram
Creating content for the Instagram ie. Video, Photography
Managing correspondence with clients etc
Assisting with the day-to-day running of the business
Booking & managing appointments ie. Photoshoot
Created the written content for the website.
However, my role at Adore Jackie stretched much farther than media. In many ways I could be seen as a personal assistant to Jacqueline and helped with the overall running of the Adore Jackie line. This aspect of the experience, although not directly related to my field of study, helped me better understand the fashion industry and therefore makes me better equipped to write about it and further pursue it as a career. The things I most gained from were witnessing the behind the scenes aspect of fashion. I learned the ins and outs of line sheets, samples, materials, product shots .. you name it and I did it. For someone not from a fashion design background, this was excellent exposure for me and as I previously mentioned, has really strengthened my knowledge and respect of the fashion industry.
As a journalism and new media student, I naturally fell into the responsibility of handling communications and correspondence. I learned a lot about talking the talk and plenty of walking the walk too (by walk I mean blocks and blocks of NYC fashion district scouring for fabrics). I learned what’s right to say, what’s not right and took notes as I went along. As my email lists got longer, so too did my contact list and the relationships between different New York contacts began to stack up.
Another interesting project I was involved in was the Adore Jackie photoshoot for which I booked the event and casted the models. I also overseen the running of the photoshoot and shot footage for a behind the scenes video which was posted to the Adore Jackie Instagram.
In early July, I assisted Jacqueline at a week long summer course she was running at the infamous Fashion Institute of Technology (former student, Vera Wang) in Manhattan. The course entitled “A Day in the Life of a Fashion Designer” was aimed at pre-college students and taught them the process of planning a collection from mood-boards to sketching to sourcing fabrics and materials. Not only did this experience further expand my network as I was introduced to people including Susanna Moyer of Dior, it also increased my awareness of the fashion industry in New York as I spent time in M&J Trimmings who made Sex and the City’s, Carries wedding dress and Project Runways, MOOD.
I have since left Jackie and returned to Ireland to explore new opportunities and further my experience elsewhere.
NOTE ** Although my title at Adore Jackie was ‘Media Co-Ordinator’, the only Adore Jackie media I managed was Instagram. Any Adore Jackie content featured on Facebook or elsewhere, did/ do not involve me. Additionally, the management of Instagram was not limited to just me as Jacqueline also took liberties to post and engage with Instagram as Adore Jackie.
