Why did you want to get involved in Fried?

Opportunities like these don’t come around all that often and it had been a long time since I’ve been involved in something like this. I hadn’t really tried many clubs or societies in my first year of college so when Enya asked me to get involved I was very excited about it as I missed having a creative outlet as such. This magazine gave me that. Projects like this are really fun and it gave me a chance to meet new people and voice my opinions to an audience that I probably wouldn’t have reached otherwise.

You’re stranded on a desert island with one thing- what is it?

Probably a friend. I would crack up not having someone to talk to. At least we could complain together and maybe even figure out an escape plan, two heads are better than one. What friend I would choose to have with me is a different question altogether.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’d love to have some insight into this. I really have no idea. If someone told me 10 years ago I’d be in Galway studying I wouldn’t have believed them so I can tell you I’m awful at answering questions like these. I would like to think I’d be doing something in the fashion or food industry maybe living abroad or working in a job that allows me to travel a lot. If I was to see myself in 10 years, I would hope I’d be well dressed surrounded by people I love. Yes, I cringed so much reading that back.

What’s the coolest thing you learned recently?

Today I played Trivial Pursuits for the first time in years( it’s Christmas Day and all that) and I learned I have zero general knowledge.

What do you hope to achieve from Fried?

I have actually already achieved a lot from Fried and it hasn’t even gone to print yet(I know if you’re reading this it’s been printed but you know what I mean). Being part of a creative team like the Fried team, I have really become a lot more comfortable sharing my ideas and opinions and I am a lot more confident in my work. Watching this magazine grow from an idea to the stage we’re at now where Enya is counting how many pages we’re going to have and finalising printing and all this, it really shows me that you can do so much if you put your mind to it.

For the future, I know I will be part of a team that is creating a magazine that people will love and I hope we’ll go from strength to strength at every publication and that’s exactly what I want to achieve from this magazine.

Share one piece of advice you think everyone should live by?

Now I definitely do not always act on this but the best thing I’ve heard to date would be a quote by Mark Twain. He said, “the key to getting ahead is getting started”. This could just be me but I leave everything to the last minute and I procrastinate so much, I’m sure Enya can confirm this in regards to deadlines but I’ll always put things off.

I think that if you want to do something the best thing you can do is just start it and forget all the worries and anxieties you feel about it and tackle them as they come at you instead of worrying about them before they happen.

As much as it is really important to think things through sometimes just getting on with things and powering through is your best asset. I do even know if this makes sense but I hope you catch my drift.

This magazine is a true example of this.
