CONTROVERSGIRL BLOG
Over the course of the following two years I uploaded blog posts regularly to ‘Controversgirl’. I used the platform to speak about issues near and dear to me; mental health, confidence, fashion, travel. I tried to intertwine fashion and lessons; giving advice through a specific outfit or fashion advice. For example, in my post entitled “Walking on Sunshine” I talk you through a yellow outfit I put together, whilst at the same time, discussing the positive effects of bright colours and the importance of dressing for oneself and not others; giving fashion “advice” a whole new meaning.
I also developed specific segments to my blog such as the “Controversgirlz” idea. This was a segment i created whereby every second week I would write a piece on a girl boss in my area, this included a photographer, an illustrator and someone who made DIY clothing.
Speaking of DIY clothing- this was another segment I incorporated into my blog. The section entitled “DIY Fly” was a category where I would go step by step through the process of outfits/accessories I had made for myself in the hope of inspiring or teaching others to do the same.
“Just a thought” provided me with a platform to explore my thoughts on certain issues of society that were playing on my mind. This ranged from thoughts surrounding social media and the negative impacts of Instagram and self-comparison to posing questions about age and relationships and do numbers really matter? “Just a thought” was where my passion for writing and philosophy really had the space to grow and develop.
When it comes to necessity, in my opinion, travel is up there with food and shelter. This is why creating a “Wanderlust” section was a no-brainer. Although this section is short- it's sweet and hits with some important information. “Eurocamp” - a holiday company that gave me the opportunity to work in a kids club in France- is the main topic of this section. In a lengthy blog post, I discuss the ins and outs of my experience working for Eurocamp and why more people should do it.
“Festi Fridayz” was my last endeavor with Controversgirl. The concept for this was to provide Festival advice every Friday coming up to the summer aka Festival season. Although this section was short lived- it was well received and attracted much attention from girls and boys alike, keen to learn the ins and outs of festival season.
