CONTROVERSGIRL

Controversgirl is the name I attributed to myself when setting up my fashion blog.

The name came from a cross between the words “controversial” and “girl”- hence, ‘'Controversgirl” was born. It felt quit fitting at the time- I was just out of secondary school (a place where wearing anything outside of leggings and a nice top got you a whole pile of unwelcome staring and muffled sniggers) and my lonesome dress sense still appeared to be outside the perimeters of “the norm”. If you wanted to stick a name on it, I guess you could have called it “controversial”- and so that’s exactly what I did.

Controversgirl started out solely as a blog but later grew into a YouTube, column and Instagram.

BLOG

Over the course of the following two years I uploaded blog posts regularly to ‘Controversgirl’. I used the platform to speak about issues near and dear to me; mental health, confidence, fashion, travel. I tried to intertwine fashion and lessons;giving advice through a specific outfit or fashion advice.

COLUMN

The University of Limerick’s, “An Focal” newspaper approached me in January of last year to see if I would be interested in writing a weekly column as Controversgirl for the online paper. I welcomed this opportunity with arms wide open and wrote on different fashion topics weekly.
